TUBSAT-B is the second scientific Microsatellite build by the Technical
University of Berlin (TUB), Germany.
It was launched 25-Jan-94 from Plesetsk, Russia at 00:25 UTC together with
the new Russian meteorological satellite METEOR-3. TUBSAT-B successfully
separated from METEOR-3 at 09:42:50 UTC.
TUBSAT-B Downlink is on 143.075 MHz with FFSK Modulation. The beacon is
transmitting a 2 second burst every 2 minutes. The satellite has not yet
been heard by it's command station. Although it is not a ham radio
satellite, any report is most welcome. Reports can be sent via packet
radio to DL4OAD @ DK0MAV.DEU.EU

========================
KO-25 will open its BBS service on 01-Feb-94. Some discussion is going on
about KO-25 services. The satellite controllers are thankful for the
cooperation and patience of all amateurs worldwide who anxiously await the
opening of the KO-25 BBS. KO-25 will operate in normal mode, 9600 bps FSK
using the FTL0 communications protocol (same as Pacsats, UO-22, and KO-23).
As the KO-25 on-board experiments are not completed yet, there will be some
service interruptions from time to time. SaTReC controllers decided to open
the BBS since the experiments remaining will not cause any serious problem
with KO-25 service later on.

First, congrats on the 10m privileges! The only net I know of is here in
Virginia at 28.470 Wednesday at 0000Z. But conditions from New York to
Virginia are rarely any good on 10 meters to have a conversation (if you're
even lucky enough to hear a Virginia station).
>.. I was wondering if there are any freqs that people
>normally listen to for contacts?
Best thing to do is just scan around the band. I don't think there are any
frequencies that are used regularly for contacts. If you want to call CQ,
find a clear frequency somewhere in the middle of the band and start
calling.
Hope this helps out..

To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
JOINT RESOLUTION S.J.Res. 90 & H.J.Res.199
To recognize achievements of radio amateurs, and to establish
support for such amateurs as National Policy
WHEREAS, Congress has expressed its determination in section 1 of the
Communications Act of 1934 [47 U.S.C. 151] to promote safety of life and
property through the use of radio communication;
WHEREAS, Congress, in section 7 of the Communications Act [47 U.S.C. 157],
has established a policy to encourage the provision of new technologies and
services;
WHEREAS, Congress, in section 3 of the Communications Act of 1934, defined
radio stations to include amateur stations operated by persons interested in
radio technique without pecuniary interest;
WHEREAS, the Federal Communications Commission has created an effective
regulatory framework through which the amateur radio service has been
able to
achieve the goals of the service;
WHEREAS, these regulations, set forth in part 97, of title 47 of the Code of
Federal Regulations, clarify and extend the purposes of the amateur radio
service as a --
(1) voluntary noncommercial communication service particularly with
respect to providing emergency communications;
(2) as a contributing service to the advancement of the
telecommunications
infrastructure;
(3) as a service which encourages improvement of an individual's
technical
and operating skills;
(4) as a service providing a national reservoir of trained operators,
technicians and electronics experts; and
(5) as a service enhancing international good will;
WHEREAS, Congress finds that members of the amateur radio service
community has
provided invaluable emergency communications services following such
disasters
as Hurricanes Hugo, Andrew and Iniki, the Mt. St. Helens eruption, the Loma
Prieta earthquake, tornadoes, floods, wild fires and industrial accidents in
great number and variety across the Nation; and
WHEREAS, Congress finds that the amateur radio service has made a
contribution
to our nation's communications by its crafting, in 1961, of the first earth
satellite licensed by the Federal Communications Commission, by its proof-of-
concept for search and rescue satellites, by its continued exploration
of the
low earth orbit in particular pointing the way to commercial use thereof
in the
1990s, by its pioneering of communications using reflections from meteor
trails, a technique now used for certain government and commercial
communications, and by its leading role in development of low-cost, practical
data transmission by radio which increasingly is being put to extensive
use in,
for instance, the land mobile service:
Now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States
of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. FINDINGS AND DECLARATIONS OF CONGRESS.
Congress finds and declares that --
(1) radio amateurs are hereby commended for their contributions to
technical progress in electronics, and for their emergency radio
communications
in times of disaster;
(2) the Federal Communications Commission is urged to continue and
enhance the development of the amateur radio service as a public benefit by
adopting rules and regulations which encourage the use of new
technologies within
the amateur radio service; and
(3) reasonable accommodation should be made for the effective operation
of amateur radio from residences, private vehicles and public areas, and that
regulation at all levels of government facilitate and encourage amateur radio
operation as a public benefit.

To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
Hi Gang,
When you hear me on 2 Meters, it's on a Ramsey FXT-146.
Assembled by yours truly. Works peachy.
Why? I love to learn about rf and electronics. Can't get
enough of it. I want to smell the solder, touch the
resistors, and bolt down the cabinet. And, oh, the feeling
when you turn it on and it works... aaah.
OK, so maybe I've got lead poisoning, squinty eyes, and
wrenched fingers. Still, I know where the rf is coming from,
how the circuits work, and why that phase lock loop stays put.
Hot ziggity!
I've met John Ramsey -- you might think he's in business to
make money. I know better ... he's in it (like most hams)
for the fun. At a hamfest, I saw his wife give a kit to a
beaming 12 year old kid who asked if he was able to build it.
At his outlet, I watched John gave a half dozen free LEDs to
a guy, saying "Here, figure out something to use these for."
This weekend, I'm building his traffic radar kit; he tells
you how to solder two coffee cans together. "...If you don't
clean the surface, the solder will just roll up into little
balls and laugh at you...".
By Sunday, I'll be measuring the speed of cars zipping in
front of my house. Sure, I could buy a radar set (though I
don't know where), but thanks to Ramsey, I know how the
doppler shift gets mixed down and sent into a frequency
counter. Hell, I soldered that hot carrier diode.
Yes, if you want the highest performance, buy a Japanese
transceiver. You can't go wrong there. And for a bargain,
hunt down some used gear. No complaints from me
But to get a feel for the circuits -- for rf with love -- for
happy electrons ... well, ask me what I'm using when you next
hear me on the air.

Why does a kit over $25 in price exist if it can't be properly and

Subject: SPLog - It Ain't Free!!

To All Hams World-Wide,
I spotted a reference to a FREE logging program on a conference that I
monitor on USENET. I had the article published in our Club newsletter as well
as mailed to over 75 Hamclubs throughout Calif., Hawaii, the East Coast!
A friend of mine sent for this program. He received his program but it isn't
free. I find this sort of advertising to be deceptive and misleading. I find
that $49.99 is not exactly free or did I miss something when I read the
following description to SPLog.

Will Turner said that wuarchive.wustl.edu has Supermorse 4.04 in /mirrors/
msdos/hamradio. But the wuarchives were wiped out last week and that
directory path no longer exists. Does anyone know of any other source for
Supermorse 4.xx?

I'm re-posting this as it appears my first attempt did not make it.
I have a message from an exchange student who would like to get it sent on
to his parents at the Far Eastern State Technical University or Far Eastern
State Technological Institute in Vladivostok. Does anyone know either an
E-mail or radio path to get me there (I don't know the current state of
third party traffic into Russia, is it allowed?) Anyone who could help
please reply by E-mail.
Thanks and 73
